First of all, we pray for the souls of the four deceased employees in the fire accident, and extend our heartfelt sympathy to their bereaved families.
We also sincerely apologize for causing so much trouble to all who had been affected including neighboring residents.
As for the situation as of January 18, 2008, we announce as follows:

1. Investigation by related government agencies
At the Kashima Plant, the investigation on a cause of the fire by related government agencies has been conducted. As for the reports, we submitted an interim report (available only in Japanese) on the fire to the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA) of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Ibaraki prefectural government on December 27, 2007, and another report (available only in Japanese) to NISA on January 9, 2008.
We will continue to cooperate fully with investigation by related government agencies and make a concerted effort to investigate the cause and prevent a recurrence under the guidance of the related government agencies.
