Status Report on the No. 2 Ethylene Plant of the Kashima Plant
Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation
As for the No. 2 Ethylene Plant of the Kashima Plant, we announce the status as of March 21 2008 as follows:

  Restarting operations of the No. 2 Ethylene Plant
We have restarted operations of five of eight cracking furnaces on March 19 (available only in Japanese), since the suspension order was lifted by the Fire Defense Headquarters of Kashima Southern District on March 5.
As for one of another three cracking furnaces, 2F-206, the inspection and repair are being conducted under the Fire Defense Headquarters of Kashima Southern District, and they are going to be completed in the beginning of May at the earliest.
As for 2F-208 cracking furnace the fire broke out and the next 2F-207 cracking furnace, restart of operations is not in sight yet.

We will take every possible safety measures and restart operations and prepare for restarting operations of the Plant.
