Temporary Shutdown to Repair the Ethylene Production Facility
at the Mizushima Plant
Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation
Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Yoshimitsu Kobayashi) has shut down the ethylene production facility at the Mizushima Plant (Location: Kurashiki-shi, Okayama; General Manager: Yasuhide Ishikawa) for a temporary inspection since December 30, 2008. As a result, we have decided today to repair a part of the facility. The restart is scheduled on January 14, 2009.

Mizushima Plant: 450,000 tons/year 
Kashima Plant (No. 1 ethylene production facility): 375,000 tons/year 
Kashima Plant (No. 2 ethylene production facility): 476,000 tons/year* 
Total: 1,301,000 tons/year 
* The production capacity including 208 cracking furnace.
The production capacity excluding 208 cracking furnace is 453,000 tons/year.
