Applications

Energy

Energy
Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation is promoting the business of sustainable energy and reusable products. Some examples are solar cell systems that make sustainable energy, lithium ion battery core materials for repeated energy storage, and ion exchange resins for power plant cooling water desalination.

Environmental care

Environmental care
Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation is promoting “KAITEKI” (friendly and comfortable) business. The products include solar cell systems that are essential for an energy-sustainable society, plastics made from sustainable resources, ion exchange resins that enable reuse of water by removing unwanted materials, and low energy consumption lights such as LED. These products contribute ‘KAITEKI’ for the earth.

IT, Ubiquitous network

IT, Ubiquitous network
Lower energy-consuming LED; substrates and EL (electroluminescent) chemicals required for LED production; positive and negative electrodes, separator, and electrolyte of reusable lithium-ion battery… the Mitsubishi Chemical offers essential components for a “KAITEKI” (friendly and comfortable) products for the earth in IT fields.

Automobiles,Aircraft

Automobiles,Aircraft
Plastics for lighter automobiles and aircraft, epoxy resins for carbon fiber reinforced plastics' (CFRP), recyclable plastics with rubber elasticity (thermoplastic elastomer), four lithium-ion battery core materials for electric vehicle… Mitsubishi Chemical is actively involved in expanding the use of “KAITEKI”(friendly and comfortable) materials for next-generation automobiles. Also, raw materials such as SBR-carbon black masterbatch for tires and antifreeze solution are widely used.
Furthermore, Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Group has set up the “Automotive Solutions” to coordinate 42 participating business units to solve comprehensive needs as well as support and promote.

Electric appliances, Office automation equipment

Electric appliances, Office automation equipment
For electric parts, Mitsubishi Chemical offers LED and related raw materials, rechargeable lithium-ion battery core materials, as well as copy machine and laser printer core parts and materials. In addition, ion exchange resins are crucial for ultra-pure water production. We also supply plastics which are used as parts and housings, for example auto interior housings, and thermoplastic elastomers for use of packing, seals, gaskets and so on. Searching for more applications to use sustainable plastics is promoting..

*Polypropylene is sold by Japan Polypropylene Corporation and engineering plastic is sold by Mitsubishi Engineering-Plastics Corporation.

Packaging, Logistics

Packaging, Logistics
Thermoplastic elastomer, logistic materials for bumper and packing, is a recyclable plastic with rubber elasticity. We are also moving forward with developing various applications of environmental “KAITEKI” (friendly and sustainable) plastics.

Daily necessities, Sports and leisure

Daily necessities, Sports and leisure
Thermoplastic elastomer has combined function and sensitivity properties to give a “KAITEKI” (comfortable) touch to a wide range of products from ballpoint pens to bath tub lids in our daily lives. Biodegradable plastic is applied to items where remains in the environment are undesirable, such as golf tees.

Machinery

Machinery
Mitsubishi Chemical’s products are also used in industrial machines. One of our products, epoxy resin, is a binder material for carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP), which has increased use in machines such as CFRP rollers and robot arms. We also offer thermoplastic elastomer that is used in tubes and parts where rubber elasticity is required, and OPC (organic photoconductor) and toner used in printing equipment.

Construction, Civil engineering, Plants

Construction, Civil engineering, Plants
In addition to solar cell systems that make energy for sustainable society, Mitsubishi Chemical products have also been used as raw materials for building materials. For example, epoxy resin is an important constituent material of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), which has increased use as materials for strengthening concrete. In addition, PVC compound materials are used in construction such as rain gutters.

Medical, health care

Medical, health care
In the Medical and Health care fields Mitsubishi Chemical offers thermoplastic elastomer that is used as a raw material for infusion bags and tubes, and DIAION® series used for purification of antibiotics, etc., as well as high performance liquid chromatography columns that are used in pharmaceutical and medical research. These products support our health care business.
*Our group company, API Corporation, offers pharmaceutical intermediate service, and MITSUBISHI CHEMICAL MEDIENCE offers diagnosis and examination services.

Food

Food
In the food industry, Mitsubishi Chemicals offers DIAION® series for sugar solution purification, amino acid isolation, and natural product isolation and purification. Also, functional resin is used as an easy peel material in yogurt containers.
*Our group company, Mitsubishi Foods Corporation offers food additives such as emulsifiers and antioxidants for promotion of a healthy and comfortable diet. In the field of food packaging and containers, Polyethylene is sold by Japan Polyethylene Corporation and PET resin for bottles is sold by the Japan UniPET company.

Agriculture

Agriculture
Greenhouse covers use PVC compounds and tires of agricultural equipment use carbon black as raw materials. Biodegradable resins are increasingly used for agricultural mulch, and it is beneficial in environmental protection and reducing the burden on farmers.

Industrial chemicals

Industrial chemicals
In petrochemical products, there are ethylene and propylene extracted from the ethylene plant and their derivatives. These derivatives include chemicals such as ethylene glycol and 1,4-butanediol, tetrahydrofuran, functional chemicals such as thermoplastic elastomer, urethane raw materials and epoxy compounds, as well as ion exchange resin products. In coal chemical products, there are carbon black made from coke and tar, a byproduct during coke production.
*Plastics can be purchased through our group companies, Japan Polyethylene Corporation, Japan Polypropylene Corporation, Mitsubishi Engineering-Plastics Corporation and The Nippon Synthetic Chemical Industry Co.,Ltd.
