In order to realize a KAITEKI society, the Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Group has established "Sustainability", "Health", and "Comfort" as the criteria for business activities, and as our corporate vision, we aim to be a leading company that undertakes sustainable development within society by carrying out our activities in accordance with these three criteria and gaining the trust of the world.

In accordance with this vision, under our new mid-term management plan, "APTSIS 15" (which began in FY2011), strategic investments and business portfolio reformation in the business fields of performance products, health care, and industrial materials are being carried out even more proactively than ever as efforts are made daily to be a highly profitable enterprise.

In order to realize "APTSIS 15", clear R&D strategy and Intellectual Property (IP) strategy based on Business strategy are necessary. Nowadays, as the economic and social environments continue to undergo tremendous change, development competition on a global scale is only growing more intense. R&D is undoubtedly the engine necessary for proposing new business models and commercializing differentiated products as quickly as possible, thus expanding profits. However, in order to commercialize R&D themes, "selection and concentration" are essential. The "selection and concentration" of R&D themes are growing more important than ever before, and the completion of selected themes with a sense of "speed" is required.

At Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, we have concentrated on six next-generation growth business fields-"OPV modules and materials", "sustainable resources", "organic photosemiconductors", "advanced performance products", "agribusiness solutions", and "healthcare solutions"-and with the close coordination of business strategy and IP strategy at the axis, we are earnestly undertaking and promoting R&D while taking market conditions into consideration.

Moreover, in order to continue to produce innovative results, collaboration with research institutions both in Japan and overseas is very important. At Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, while polishing our core fundamental technologies, with an eye to the future we are at the same time proactively collaborating with research institutions and enterprises both in Japan and overseas. Under the key phrases of "Breaking away from `not-invented-here' policy" and "open innovation", R&D focused on product, process, and even marketing innovation are Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation efforts aimed at the future.

Under our motto "Good Chemistry for Tomorrow", we are vigorously pushing forward every day with R&D while at the same time responding to the needs of society and our customers.
